At the heart of the department, the Périgord Blanc (for the whiteness of the stone) is the unique place to practice the art of sculpture. The Cathedral of Saint-Front, the Gallo-Roman museum or Vesunna Castle Neuvic you will enjoy for sure. Purple Périgord, located south-west of the department, is at the heart of the famous vineyards (Monbazillac, Pécharmant Montravel … are among the 13 AOC) and covers some 12 000 ha on which stands the town of Bergerac. The presence of a large number of streams (Dronne, Isle, Auvézère or Bandiat) will give you a refreshing and enjoyable ride. Finally, Périogord Black opens the International Pole Prehistory Valley Vezere and the Dordogne. The Vezere Valley is home to some of the richest sites of European prehistory (Palaeolithic sites, caves and natural shelters). It identifies fifteen decorated sites classified by UNESCO as World Heritage of Humanity.
